Synopsis:

We have performed AE monitoring of various test of civil structural components, including: cables for stay-cable bridges, segmental PT concrete bridge sections, and FRP retrofits of concrete structures. In all of these instances, AE techniques were deployed to detect onset of damage and monitor damage progression through special feature extraction and AE source location algorithms.  We have  further investigated the use a statistical discrimination metrics which use multiple ultrasonic features collected from the sensor array to detect a Loss of Capacity of bridges. We have also explored ways to combine "active" ultrasonic monitoring with "passive" AE monitoring in the case of post-tensioned concrete bridges.
